ANSI B16.41-1983, published by The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, establishes requirements for the functional qualification of power operated active valve assemblies for nuclear power plants. The standard covers qualification testing, inspection, reporting, functional specifications, and application reports for valve assemblies, including parent and candidate valve assembly qualification methods.
It addresses requirements related to valve sealing capability, cold and hot cyclic operability, pipe reaction end loading, seismic loading, vibration, flow interruption capability, endurance, and environmental and aging effects. Annexes provide test methods and guidance for leakage, cyclic, vibration, seismic, flow interruption, endurance, and candidate valve qualification.
Application Scope: Applicable to functional qualification of power operated active valve assemblies for nuclear power plant service; it is not intended for power operated relief valves or self-operated valves such as check valves and pressure relief valves.
