ISO 20022-8:2013 specifies the transformation rules for generating ASN.1 abstract syntax from an ISO 20022-compliant MessageDefinition. It defines a deterministic Level 3 to Level 4 transformation for message description and validation, including module structure, identifiers, tagging and extensibility environments, encoding support, and mappings for ISO 20022 data types.
The standard covers ASN.1 generation for MessageSets, MessageDefinitions, modules, PDUs, XSD data types, constraints, and supported encoding approaches such as Aligned PER and XML using XER. It is the ASN.1 counterpart to ISO 20022-4, which defines XML Schema generation rules.
Application Scope: Financial services messaging, ISO 20022 implementation, ASN.1 schema generation, message validation, financial data exchange, and standards-based interoperability.
