ISO 4548-5:2013 specifies methods for testing the ability of full-flow lubricating oil filters to withstand internal pressure surges associated with cold engine starts and cyclic internal pressure variations during operation.
The standard applies primarily to spin-on filters and detachable filters with disposable elements having a maximum flow rate of 100 l/min. It defines test rig requirements, test liquid viscosity, measurement accuracy, cold start simulation procedures, hydraulic pulse durability procedures, test reporting requirements, pressure waveforms, and default test pressures and cycle counts when no agreement has been reached with the manufacturer.
This document is useful for filter manufacturers, engine manufacturers, test laboratories, quality assurance teams, and purchasers evaluating filter canister and seal durability under pressure fluctuation conditions.
Application Scope: Full-flow lubricating oil filters for internal combustion engines, including spin-on filters and detachable filters with disposable elements.
