This final report investigates the tensile behavior of welded aluminum components used in marine structures. It presents experimental testing of unstiffened plates and stiffened plates with transverse, longitudinal, and combined stiffeners, including specimens made from AA5083-H116 and AA6061-T6 aluminum alloys. The study characterizes mechanical properties across the heat-affected zone, evaluates load-deformation behavior and ultimate tensile capacity, and applies detailed three-dimensional finite element analysis. It also assesses available strength prediction methods and provides recommendations for improving the design and reliability of welded aluminum vessel components.
Application Scope: Marine vessel design, ship structural engineering, welded aluminum panel assessment, tensile-strength prediction, finite element modeling, and aluminum weld research.
