TAPPI UM 542 2010

TAPPI UM 542 provides a laboratory procedure for measuring the amount of mineral coating on coated paper. The method covers applicable coating types, safety precautions, required apparatus and enzyme solution, specimen preparation, conditioning, coating removal, weighing, calculations, reporting, and precision. Results are reported as coating percentage, coating weight in g/m², and the basis weight of the decoated paper.

Application Scope: Suitable for ordinary mineral coatings on paper; it may not be effective for coatings with high water resistance or synthetic binders.
