BS EN 13238:2026 establishes general principles for conditioning test specimens used in European reaction-to-fire test methods and defines rules for selecting standard substrates. It covers conditioning to constant mass and fixed conditioning periods, including controlled temperature and humidity requirements. The standard also provides substrate selection rules for floorings and other construction products, including representative requirements for fiber cement board, calcium silicate board, mineral wool, steel, aluminum, gypsum plasterboard, particleboard, and plywood.
This edition supersedes EN 13238:2010 and includes revised requirements addressing the quality of available substrates and the evaluation of conditioning periods. It is intended for use with relevant European reaction-to-fire test standards and supports consistent assessment of construction products in representative end-use conditions.
Application Scope: Use by fire testing laboratories, construction product manufacturers, certification bodies, regulators, and technical professionals selecting substrates and conditioning procedures for reaction-to-fire testing of floorings and other building products.
