This standard provides guidelines for selecting test methods to assess automotive leather performance and specifies specimen sampling and conditioning procedures.
BS EN 14906:2026 provides a structured framework for evaluating leather intended for automotive applications, including steering wheels, gear knobs, seating, and headrests. It defines sampling, conditioning, test-piece preparation, evaluation, and reporting requirements, and identifies essential and optional test methods for physical, mechanical, durability, colorfastness, emissions, flame resistance, soiling, cleanability, and other performance characteristics.
The standard supersedes EN 14906:2012 and updates its normative references, test-method tables, and general procedural wording. It is intended to support consistent testing, specifications, and negotiations between suppliers and buyers in the leather and automotive industries.
Application Scope: Automotive leather manufacturers, material suppliers, component producers, testing laboratories, quality professionals, and automotive procurement and compliance teams.
