BS EN 14972-2:2026 specifies the test protocol for evaluating the fire performance of ceiling-mounted automatic water mist nozzle systems in shopping areas and adjacent storage areas. It defines applicable ceiling conditions, fuel packages, shelf and block storage configurations, ignition scenarios, system installation requirements, test equipment, instrumentation, fire test procedures, acceptance criteria, and test reporting requirements. The standard compares water mist system performance with a reference sprinkler system using damage, ceiling gas temperature, and activated nozzle or sprinkler area measurements.
Application Scope: This standard applies to sales areas, adjacent storage areas, archives, libraries, technical areas, and similar occupancies with horizontal, solid, flat ceilings. It does not cover storage with movable shelves or shelves.
