PAS 246:2015

What is this PAS about?

This PAS gives guidance on using standards for digital biological information in the design and fabrication of a synthetic biological system.

Who is this PAS for?

PAS 246 is relevant to:

• Groups working in the synthetic biology technology field who are looking to use it to innovate
• Policy makers interested in developing digital bio-manufacturing
• Funding groups and other organizations who might benefit from using this technology

It will also be of interest to:

• Those active in fields related to industrial biotechnology and analytical life sciences such as systems biology, bioinformatics, biophysics, medical technology and environment technologies
• Social scientists involved in innovation
• Computational scientists working in the life sciences or involved in standardization, and those working in metrology and measurement

Why should you use this PAS?

Because it tackles how digital biological information can benefit the biological system engineering process and provides guidance on metrology requirements for digital biological information. It also provides information on standards in development, particularly those addressing the transfer of digital biological information and assembling biological systems with such digital biological information.

PAS 246 also includes information on:

• The importance of currently available community standards, including how they can be used now and how they may be used in the future
• The gaps between standards’ activities where additional work would be highly beneficial
