What is BS 1133-21 - Packaging films guide about?
Cellulose film is a thin, flexible, transparent material derived from wood pulp, a natural fibrous form of cellulose. Cellulose film has high resistance to a wide range of chemicals and to grease, oil and dust and is impervious to bacteria. For the majority of applications, the basic cellulose film must be further processed to give it moisture resistance and heat-sealability.
BS 1133-21 gives a general description of, and provides information on, nomenclature, availability, properties, end uses and methods of test for regenerated cellulose film, films made of plastics, aluminium foil and metallized materials, and gives general guidance on the use of these materials in flexible multilayer structures.
BS 1133-21 includes information on metallized materials and information concerning linear low-density polyethylene. The clause on polystyrene film has been incorporated into the clause on films of other plastics, which now also includes information on polyvinyl alcohol and its copolymers, nitrile polymers and certain acrylonitrile polymers. The commercial codes for various types of regenerated cellulose film have been aligned with European codes.
Who is BS 1133-21 - Packaging films guide for?
BS 1133-21 on packaging films guide is useful for:
- Goods packaging products manufacturers
- The goods packaging and distribution industry
- Food packaging industries
- The Food processing industry
- Plastic industries
- Quality control professionals
Why should you use BS 1133-21 - Packaging films guide?
The right packaging can make all the difference to a product. Amongst the most important properties of cellulose film are its high gloss and transparency. The film is strong for thin, lightweight material, with high tensile and bursting strengths, but tears, once started, propagate easily. Cellulose film offers extremely high-temperature resistance, uncoated regenerated cellulose film can be used on hand layouts, continuous flatlines.
BS 1133-21 provides you with safety aspects for regenerated cellulose film, films made of plastics, aluminium foil, flexible multilayer structures and metallized materials. BS 1133-21 also provides you guidance on cellulose film including physical and tensile properties, bursting strength, permeability to water vapour, heat-sealing properties, and jawstick properties.
BS 1133-21 describes test methods for various properties of polyethylene films as well as properties of flexible PVC films. BS 1133-21 gives end uses for unsupported and laminated aluminium foil in packaging. Overall, BS 1133-21 guideline help you to select packaging films and materials with specific gas permeability that are used to create defined oxygen and nitrogen around the food.
