What is BS 1377-2 – Classification and geotechnical properties of soils for civil engineering purposes about?
BS 1377-2 discusses methods of testing for soil for civil engineering purposes. The aim of the BS 1377 series is to provide the best industrial practice to determine the characteristics of the soil.
BS 1377-2 is the second part of the BS 1377 series of standards that specifies methods of test for the classification of soil and for the determination of geotechnical properties of soils in the laboratory.
Who is BS 1377-2 – Classification and geotechnical properties of soils for civil engineering purposes for?
BS 1377-2 on classification and geotechnical properties of soils for civil engineering purposes is useful for:
- The construction industry
- Civil engineers
- Ground engineering consultants
- Construction contractors and clients
- Ground investigation specifiers
- Geotechnical advisers
- Geotechnical soils testing laboratories, managers, and technicians
- Local authority engineers and planners
- Infrastructure managers and planners
Why should you use BS 1377-2 – Classification and geotechnical properties of soils for civil engineering purposes?
Soil testing is a very important part of building and road construction projects. The purpose of soil testing for construction is to determine the suitability of the soil for the type of construction to be done.
BS 1377-2 provides common laboratory tests are required for the classification of soils, determination of compaction characteristics of soils for earthworks, permeability, compressibility and erodibility and determination of shear strength of soils in terms of both total and effective stresses. This will help in determining the geotechnical properties of the soil which ensures the stability of civil engineering structures. BS 1377-2 on the test for soils for civil engineering purposes, contributes towards increasing the efficiency of the project.
BS 1377-2 assists you in demonstrating better and more cost-effective soil management strategies for reducing the possibility of foundation issues, and determining the best building options to use.
