What is BS 1524 – Specification for cellulose acetate moulding materials about?
BS 1524 is a British Standard that discusses cellulose acetate moulding materials.
BS 1524 specifies the requirements for cellulose acetate moulding materials. In addition to the definitive requirements, BS 1524 also requires the items detailed in clause 4 to be documented.
Who is BS 1524 - Specification for cellulose acetate moulding materials for?
BS 1524 on specification for cellulose acetate moulding materials is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of thermoplastic and moulding materials
- Plastic industry
- Product designers
- Product development teams
- Quality control and testing personnel
Why should you use BS 1524 - Specification for cellulose acetate moulding materials?
Cellulose acetate moulding material is a thermoplastic composition in granular form capable of being shaped by heat and pressure, and consisting of cellulose acetate compounded with one or more plasticizers and small proportions of other ingredients.
BS 1524 provides five grades for moulding materials, A to E, according to their melt flow rate, stiffness and impact strength.
The properties and their requirements based on grades are covered in BS 1524. The properties include melt flow rate, impact strength, tensile strength, deflection under bending stress, viscosity change, moisture absorption, and loss in mass by leaching and heating.
Thus, if you are a manufacturer of cellulose acetate moulding materials, compliance with BS 1524 can help you determine whether your products are fit for its intended use.
