What is BS 1552 – Specification for open bottomed taper plug valves about?
Plug valves are an excellent option for many commercial and light industrial applications, including directional flow control, handling of gas or liquid fuels, regulating fluids with suspended solids, such as slurries, or handling low-pressure, low-temperature services.
BS 1552 is a British Standard that discusses open bottomed taper plug valves and provides best industry guidance to ensure they are safe and reliable for use in gas supply systems.
BS 1552 specifies the requirements and methods of test for the design and performance of manually operated open bottomed taper plug valves, operating at a declared working pressure of up to 200 mbar1) on 1st, 2nd and 3rd family gases. Valve sizes covered by BS 1552 are up to and including size R2 and a maximum bore of 50 mm or equivalent free area.
Who is BS 1552 - Specification for open bottomed taper plug valves for?
BS 1552 on specification for open bottomed taper plug valves  is relevant to:
- Open bottomed taper plug valve manufacturers
- Designers and installers of open bottomed taper plug valve
- Petroleum and natural gas industry
- Quality control and testing personnel
- Safety departments
- Local bodies
- Regulatory authorities
Why should you use BS 1552 - Specification for open bottomed taper plug valves?
For safe and reliable use of open bottomed taper plug valve in gas supply systems, it is essential that they meet best industry requirements and are verified for performance with recognised test methods.
In this regard, BS 1552 provides you with best industry requirements of materials, design, and connections, such that the open bottomed taper plug valve do not impair the overall performance of gas supply systems.
By complying with BS 1552-recommended test methods, you can ensure that the open bottomed taper plug valve offers adequate fire resistance, endurance, leak-tightness and resistance to humidity. As a result, you can determine whether or not your products are capable of maintaining the integrity of gas supply systems.
Thus, BS 1552 helps you in manufacturing high quality open bottomed taper plug valves, ensuring that they are safe and effective at the point of use. Consequently, incidents of leakages, fire hazards, corrosion and overall product failure can be avoided.
