What is BS 1560-3.2 - Specification for cast iron flanges about?
BS 1560 is a British Standard on the circular flanges for pipes, valves and fittings (Class designated). The main aim of BS 1560 is to provide manufacturers with best industry practices to ensure structural integrity and leak tightness of flange connections, such that they are fit for its intended use.
BS 1560-3.2 is the second section of the third part of the BS 1560-3.2 series that specifies requirements for circular grey and malleable cast iron flanges having Class 125 and Class 250 designations and ductile cast iron flanges having Class 150 and Class 300 designations. The flanges are in the range of nominal sizes ½ in to 24 in.
Who is BS 1560-3.2 - Specification for cast iron flanges for?
BS 1560-3.2 on the specification for cast iron flanges is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of flanges, couplings and joints
- Designers of grey cast iron flanges
- Manufacturers of pipes and other fitting materials
- The water pipeline industry
- The oil and gas industry
- Operators and constructor
- Technical authority
- Mechanical engineers
- Product design engineers
- Certification bodies
Why should you use BS 1560-3.2 - Specification for cast iron flanges?
Cast iron flanges are used to connect pumps, valves, pipes as well as other equipment to form a system that does not require magnetic properties. The use of flanges allows a person for maintenance and easy repair of the pipe system.
BS 1560-3.2 specifies the types of cast iron flanges and their facings, dimensions, bolt sizes, flange face surface finish, marking, materials for bolting and flange materials together with their associated pressure/temperature ratings.
As a result, if you are a manufacturer of flange joints, conforming to BS 1560-3.2 can help demonstrate the performance and credibility of your product, ensuring that they are suitable for its purpose and achieve the stated level of joint tightness with accuracy.
