What is BS 1591 - Corrosion resisting high silicon iron castings about?
BS 1591 specifies specifications for corrosion resisting high silicon iron castings.
BS 1591 specifies requirements for high silicon iron castings for use where engineers handle highly corrosive media, such as in chemical, petrochemical, textile and similar industries.
BS 1591 specifies requirements for corrosion resisting high silicon iron castings for chemical engineering purposes and for cathodic protection anodes.
Who is BS 1591 - Corrosion resisting high silicon iron castings for?
BS 1591on Corrosion resisting high silicon iron castings is useful for:
- Mechanical engineers
- Iron and steel wire manufacturers
- Motor manufacturers and traders
- Marine engineers
- Steel casting researchers
Why should you use BS 1591- Corrosion resisting high silicon iron castings?
High silicon iron is used for the manufacture of anodes used in cathodic protection and is more brittle than grey cast iron, in consequence, it is necessary to take greater care and precautions in handling and transporting to avoid accidental breakages.
BS 1591 provides methods of stress relieving as a precaution to eliminate tendencies to failures on castings of poor design. Heat treatment is dependent on the size and nature of the casting being such as to allow stress relieving to be carried out.
BS 1591 is useful for the engineers and manufacturers of iron, steel, vehicles, etc. for preventing corrosion in high silicon iron castings and for the protection of anodes by ensuring longevity and safety of the high silicon iron castings.
