What is BS 1796-1- Test sieving about?
BS 1796-1 is the first part of an International Standard that discusses the methods using test sieves of woven wire cloth and perforated metal plate.
BS 1796-1 draws attention to and describes the main factors affecting test sieving and the results obtained.
BS 1796-1 specifies general principles to be followed concerning apparatus, procedure, and presentation of results. BS 1796-1 applies to methods in which test sieves of woven wire cloth or perforated metal plate are used.
Who is BS 1796-1- Test sieving for?
BS 1796-1 on test sieving is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of woven wire cloth and perforated metal plate
- Exporters and importers of woven wire cloth and perforated metal plate
- Processing industries
- Laboratories
- Testing authorities
- Regulatory authorities
Why should you use BS 1796-1- Test sieving?
Test sieving is used in many industries on a wide variety of materials and for different purposes.
A single test sieve separates a particular material into two factions, of which one is retained by the sieving medium and the other of which passes through its apertures.
BS 1796-1 provides guidance on the methods using test sieves of woven wire cloth and a perforated metal plate. BS 1796-1 gives the procedures depending on the predominant size range of the particles in a sample and recognizes some materials are difficult to sieve and require specially developed techniques.
BS 1796-1 explains the test sieving of woven wire cloth that helps users for:
- As part of a research project that involves an investigation of the particle size of a material
- As part of a control, the procedure to produce material where the particle size distribution is important
- As the basis of a contract for the supply of the material specified to be within the stated grading limits
Overall, BS 1796-1 is useful for the users as it assists with the sampling method, division of the sample, and details of test sieving procedures and methods, which contributes to enhancing the quality of woven wire cloth and perforated metal plates.
