What is BS 1940 - Butanone (ethyl methyl ketone) about?
BS 1940 discusses butanone. This colourless liquid ketone has a sharp, sweet odour reminiscent of acetone.
BS 1940 specifies requirements for butanone suitable for industrial purposes. This international standard helps the user use butanone (ethyl methyl ketone) for industrial use.
Who is BS 1940 - Butanone (ethyl methyl ketone) for?
BS 1940 on Butanone (ethyl methyl ketone) is useful for:
- Chemical manufactures
- Plastic manufactures
- Paint manufacturers
- Glue manufacturers
- Textiles manufacturers
- Wax manufacturers
Why should you use BS 1940 - Butanone (ethyl methyl ketone)?
Butanone (Methyl ethyl ketone) is used in many industries. It is used as a solvent and in the manufacture of synthetic rubber, paraffin wax, and to make other chemical products. BS 1940 provides you with the colour and density of the butanone.
BS 1940 provides you with a distillation range and the residue on evaporation of butanone. BS 1940 guides you with the water content, acidity, and alcoholic impurities to be present in the butanone. BS 1940 enables you to identify butanone that is suitable for industrial use.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS 1940:1987 supersedes BS 1940:1968. BS 1940:1987 includes a technical change with respect to BS 1940:1968. These include:
- The requirement for water content has been made more stringent and the requirement for relative density has been replaced by one for density at 20 °C.
