What is BS 3531-15 - Devices for the fixation of the ends of the femur in adults about?
BS 3531 is a European standard that discusses implants for osteosynthesis. BS 3531-15 is the fifteenth part of the multi-part series that outlines the materials, dimensions, surface finish, and packaging and marking of metal surgical implants used for the fixation of fractures and osteotomies of the upper and lower ends of the femur in adults for manufacturing efficient devices that meet all the established criteria for performance.
The types of devices covered in BS 3531-15 are as follows:
- Nails and screws intended to be used alone
- Nail plates and blade plates of one-piece construction
- Fixation devices of multi-piece construction having either a fixed or an adjustable angle
- Fixation devices of multi-piece construction with sliding nail or screw, with or without a compression device
Who is BS 3531-15 - Devices for the fixation of the ends of the femur in adults for?
BS 3531-15 on devices for the fixation of the ends of the femur in adults is useful for:
- Manufacturers of devices for the fixation of the ends of the femur
- Test centres and any person involved in the testing of the devices
- Regulatory authorities
- Design engineers
Why should you use BS 3531-15 - Devices for the fixation of the ends of the femur in adults?
Fixation devices for use in the upper and lower ends of the femur may be made in a variety of configurations, according to the design of the originator of the individual manufacturer. However, certain dimensions are critical and may not be exceeded without risk of damage to the bone when the device is inserted.
BS 3531-15 assists you with materials, types of nails and fixation screws, dimensions, ancillary components for assembly of fixation devices of multi-piece construction, surface finish, packaging, and marking to assure the quality and durability of devices for the fixation of the ends of the femur in adults.
With obedience and compliance to BS 3531-15, you can enhance the efficacy of devices for the fixation of the ends of the femur in adults. In addition, ensure uniformity in designating and describing the size of the device so that devices of different origins but the same nominal size will not differ significantly in their critical dimensions.
