What is BS 3553 - Graphical symbols for coal preparation plant flowsheets about?
BS 3553 specifies basic symbols for use in flowsheets and other diagrams relating to coal preparation plants.
Note 1: Attention is drawn to the graphical symbols specified in BS 1553; they should be used on flowsheets representing the general engineering aspects of the coal preparation plant.
Note 2: Symbols relating to process controls can be obtained from BS 1646-1.
Note 3: The titles of the publications referred to in BS 3553 are listed on the inside back cover.
Who is BS 3553 - Graphical symbols for coal preparation plant flowsheets for?
BS 3553 on graphical symbols for coal preparation plant flowsheets is useful for:
- Coal industry
- Mining industry
- Coal preparation plants
- Suppliers of coal
Why should you use BS 3553 - Graphical symbols for coal preparation plant flowsheets?
BS 3553 provides you with conventions for the drawing of symbols and a table representing items and related symbols. This helps you ensure that the graphical symbols for the coal preparation plant are easy to draw and readily distinguishable one from another
The symbols included in BS 3553 have been selected to facilitate the following:
- The items of the plant listed should be widely used for coal preparation purposes and should be required by the user of the flowsheet to be identified thereon
- Each symbol should preferably give some indication of the principle of the operation involved, but should not represent the appearance of any particular type of machine
What’s changed since the last update?
BS 3553:1992 supersedes BS 3553:1986. BS 3553:1992 includes some technical changes with respect to BS 3553:1986. These include:
- The symbols for items 37 and 38 have been modified slightly to align them with the corresponding symbols in ISO 561:1989
- For items 52 and 53, the pressure variant of the filters is included
- For item 68, the vacuum variant is included
- A spiral separator (item 69) is represented by a different symbol and both a two-product variant and a three-product variant are included
- A probability screen (item 70) has been introduced
