What is BS 3568 – Wool solubility in alkali about?
BS 3568 is an International Standard that focuses on the aspects of good quality wool.
BS 3568 describes a method for the determination of the solubility of wool in alkali.
BS 3568 is applicable to wool textiles in any form, i.e. loose fibre, sliver, roving, yarn or fabric, but is not applicable if the specimen has been dyed with any metallized dye.
Who is BS 3568 - Wool solubility in alkali for?
BS 3568 on the determination of the solubility of wool in alkali is useful for:
- Textile industries
- Wool fabric manufacturing units
- Product development teams
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use BS 3568 - Wool solubility in alkali?
The solubility of wool in alkali provides a useful index of the extent of the change in its chemical properties brought about by certain agencies. Treatment with acids, oxidizing or reducing agents, and exposure to heat or light causes an increase in the solubility, whereas treatment with alkalis or cross-linking agents causes the solubility to decrease.
BS 3568 describes a method for determining the solubility of wool textiles in an alkali solution. It gives you the principle of test methods, reagents used in the testing, the apparatus required, and preparation of the test specimens to determine the solubility of wool in alkali.
BS 3568 lays out the provision for the test method that helps you verify the properties and amount of the soluble contents in the wool. It proves very beneficial for its users, as the test is most useful when an untreated control sample is available and when the nature of the treatment of the sample under test is known.
