What is BS 3728 – Children and infant wear size designation about?
BS 3728 is an International Standard that focuses on specifications for size designation of children’s and infants’ wear. BS 3728 specifies a system of designating the sizes of children’s and infants’ garments that are classified as:

Why should you use BS 3728 - Children and infant wear size designation?
With the wide range of sizes of growing children, an organized system for sizes greatly benefits designers, retailers, as well as buyers.
BS 3728 discusses the size designation of clothing and is not directly concerned with sizing systems as such.
BS 3728 establishes a size designation system that indicates (in a simple, direct, and meaningful manner) the body size of the child or infant that a garment is intended to fit. Provided that the shape of the child’s or infant’s body (as indicated by the appropriate dimensions) has been accurately determined this system will facilitate the choice of garments that fit. Definitions and body measurement procedures are prescribed in BS 3728, which are applicable to all clothing categories.
The size designation system described in BS 3728 is based on body and not garment dimensions. Choice of garment measurements is normally left to the designer and the manufacturer, who is concerned with style, cut and other fashion elements, and who must make allowance for garments normally worn beneath a specific garment.
BS 3728 guidelines aid in creating an easy-to-understand standardized size system across the country so that buyers are easily able to pick out appropriate garments for their infants and children.
