What is BS 3730-2 - Stylus instruments specification about?
BS 3730-2 is an International Standard that discusses the uses and technical specifications for stylus instruments.
BS 3730-2 specifies the characteristics of contact (stylus) instruments based on the method of determining departures from roundness by measuring variations in radius.
BS 3730-2 relates to the assessment of the departures from ideal roundness of a workpiece through the medium of a profile transformation, obtained under reference conditions, expressed with respect to any one of the following centres:
- Centre of the least squares circle
- Centre of the minimum zone circle
- Centre of the minimum circumscribed circle
- Centre of the maximum inscribed circle
Departures of roundness from the measured profile, procedure, use of instrument, calibration, and determination of systematic errors of rotation are dealt within BS 3730-2. BS 3730-2 gives rules for plotting and reading polar graphs.
Who is BS 3730-2 - Stylus instruments specification for?
BS 3730-2 on stylus instruments specification is useful for:
- Manufacturers of stylus instruments
- Designers of stylus instruments
- Civil engineers
- Product development teams
- Testing authorities
- Quality assurance personnel
Why should you use BS 3730-2 - Stylus instruments specification?
Stylus instruments are widely used for measuring the finishing of the surface. There are various types of stylus instruments depending upon their applications. A stylus is a writing utensil or a small tool for marking and shaping.
BS 3730-2 lays out the specification for the characteristics of stylus instruments to determine the departures from roundness for measuring variations in radius. It is an important tool in the field of metrology in order to check the properties of surfaces. BS 3730-2 also provides you with the surface characteristics and dimensions of stylus instruments as well as covers instruments errors. BS 3730-2 assists you in measuring the departure from the roundness of the measured profile of the workpiece. BS 3730-2 helps in determining the systematic errors of rotation and states the rules for plotting and reading polar graphs.
BS 3730-2 provides guidance on the characteristics of stylus instruments used for determining departures from roundness by measuring variations in radius which is very helpful for the users of stylus instruments.
