- Influence: All terms and definitions related to fire safety come from BS 4422. It therefore influences the development and publication of any and all future standards related to fire safety in the built environment.
What has changed?
BS 4422:2024 supersedes BS 4422:2005. The major changes included in this revision are:
- realignment of terms and definitions with British Standards published since BS 4422 was last revised;
- inclusion of new terms and concepts that have been introduced in other British Standards published since 2005;
- removal of terms that are outdated or no longer used; and
- removal of terms relating to specialist disciplines.
Some high-level concepts from other disciplines are included within BS 4422:2024 where these are of particular relevance, but many have been removed and the relevant definitions can be found instead within the standards published by those committees. This includes both specialist fire disciplines, such as Fire Equipment and other disciplines that are related to fire, such as lifts and emergency lighting.
