What is BS 4449 - Weldable reinforcing steel about?
BS 4449 is a British standard on steel for the reinforcement of concrete that discusses the criteria for manufacturing ribbed weldable reinforcing steel. BS 4449 specifies requirements for ribbed weldable reinforcing steel used for the reinforcement of concrete structures. BS 4449 covers steel delivered in the form of bars, coils, and decoiled products. BS 4449 contains provisions for three steel grades, all of 500 MPa characteristic yield strength, but with different ductility characteristics. The three grades are B500A, B500B, and B500C.
The weldability requirements for all grades of steel are specified in terms of the chemical composition, and in particular the carbon equivalent value.
Steel bars produced by re-rolling finished products, or by rolling material of which the metallurgical history is not fully documented or not known, are not covered by BS 4449.
Who is BS 4449 - Weldable reinforcing steel for?
BS 4449 on steel for the reinforcement of concrete is relevant to:
- Manufacturer of weldable reinforcing steel
- Structural engineer
- Civil engineer
Why should you use BS 4449 - Weldable reinforcing steel?
Reinforcement steel or reinforcing steel is a steel bar or mesh of steel wires used in reinforced concrete and masonry structures to strengthen and hold the concrete in tension. To improve the quality of the bond with the concrete, the surface of the rebar is often patterned.
BS 4449 provides guidance on designations, steelmaking and manufacturing processes, product characteristics, evaluation of conformity, and test methods.
BS 4449 exemplifies the required dimensions, chemical composition, and mechanical properties that help you achieve precision in terms of product functionality and specification.
As a user of BS 4449, you can be ensured of characteristics of steel grades, requirements for ribbed weldable reinforcing steel. With obedience and compliance to BS 4449, you can efficiently
manufacture high-quality ribbed weldable reinforcing steel bar, coil, and decoiled product. BS 4449 helps you to build consumer trust and confidence in the product. With BS 4449 you can be ensured that the products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets. BS 4449 provides you with comprehensive information useful throughout the process of production.
