What is BS 4573‒ 2-Pin reversible plugs and shaver sockets about?
BS 4573 is an international standard that covers guidelines for 2-pin reversible plugs and shaver sockets.
BS 4573 specifies requirements for 2-pin reversible plugs and shaver socket-outlets with ratings not greater than 250V and 200mA AC. The shaver socket-outlets have a restricted rating of 200 mA for use on voltages of 200V to 250V AC only.
BS 4573 gives technical specifications such as requirements for shaver socket-outlets, and requirements for plugs such as interchangeability, dimensions, spacing of plug pins, markings, general test requirements, type tests, insulation resistance, HV flash test, endurance tests, and gauges for shaver socket-outlets, etc.
Note 1: The plugs may be rewireable or integrally moulded and may have the cable entry in any convenient face.
Note 2: The socket-outlets are not necessarily suitable for the supply to electric dry shavers containing battery charging units.
Who is BS 4573‒ 2-Pin reversible plugs and shaver sockets for?
BS 4573 on 2-pin reversible plugs and shaver sockets is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of plugs and shaver sockets
- Dealers and distributors of plugs and shaver sockets
- Installers of plugs and shaver sockets
- Electrical engineers
Why should you use BS 4573‒ 2-Pin reversible plugs and shaver sockets?
A reversible plug is a plug that can be utilized via both orientations and is inserted both ways. A shaver socket is installed in a bathroom to provide a way to use or recharge electric shavers or toothbrushes, etc.
BS 4573 presents you with the technical specifications for 2-pin reversible plugs and shaver sockets, in an elaborated way which helps you in designing and manufacturing the plugs and sockets, so that their performance is reliable in normal and is in accepted use, just by satisfying the given requirements.
BS 4573 also provides you with various test methods to verify the performance characteristics of 2-pin reversible plugs and shaver sockets, which helps the users to enhance their efficiency, reliability, and durability, making them ideal for use in the bathrooms, as per the instructions.
