What is BS 5070-1 – General principles of engineering diagram drawing about?
BS 5070 is a British Standard that discusses best industry practices for engineering diagram drawings.
BS 5070-1 is the first part of the BS 5070 series that gives recommendations for the general principles of presentation and practice to be applied to engineering diagrams of all types that depict by the use of graphic symbols the function of a system or the relationship between components and parts.
Other parts of BS 5070 give recommendations and specific definitions that are appropriate to particular engineering disciplines.
Who is BS 5070-1 - General principles of engineering diagram drawing for?
BS 5070-1 on engineering diagram drawing is relevant to:
- Engineers
- Architects
- Product designers
- Technical experts
- Independent design agencies and consultancies
Why should you use BS BS 5070-1 - General principles of engineering diagram drawing?
Engineering diagrams are used to convey technical information about an object. They include diagrams such as circuit diagrams, schematics, wiring plans, or floor plans, that play a significant role in the performance of the end-application. An engineering drawing communicates what is required, wanted and needed to enable resources to be expended to turn an idea into reality.
BS 5070-1 deals with general principles of diagram drawing including types, basic preparation and presentation. It is the base document from which the other parts are developed.
Thus BS 5070-1 sets out recommendations for drawing practice to be followed in preparing engineering diagrams in all fields of engineering with a view to securing uniformity between one drawing office and another in the same industry.
