What is BS 5116 – Cotton fibre test method about?
BS 5116 is an International Standard that focuses on testing the cotton fibres in order to produce good quality fabrics. BS 5116 specifies a method of test for the determination of the breaking tenacity of cotton fibres arranged in a parallel manner in a flat bundle.
BS 5116 applies either to fibres from raw cotton, to fibres from various stages in the manufacturing process, or to fibres separated or extracted from manufactured cotton products.
BS 5116 is applicable to fibres being tested either at a nominal gauge length of zero or a finite gauge length.
Who is BS 5116 - Cotton fibre test method for?
BS 5116 on testing for the determination of breaking tenacity of flat bundles of cotton fibres is useful for:
- Textile industries
- Cotton manufacturing unit
- Clothing industries
- Textile testing laboratories
- Regulatory authorities
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use BS 5116 - Cotton fibre test method?
The quality of the clothing products in the textile industry mainly depends on the quality of the fabrics used for the clothing, may it be apparel, bedding, or any other piece of cloth. Thus, it is essential that fabric undergoes various test methods to prove and improve its reliability, efficiency and class.
BS 5116 presents you with a test method that helps you determine the breaking tenacity of flat bundles of cotton fibres. It informs about short fibres, combed out and the measured fibre strength corresponds with the breaking strength of the longer fibres in the sample.
BS 5116 specifies the methodology for testing the bundles of fibres that may be secured by clamps that are either in close contact (zero gauge length) or separated to give a specified nominal gauge length.
BS 5116 have been established to enable different operators to adjust their levels of testing to an agreed common level.
Thus, BS 5116 guides the manufacturers to streamline production so that users have access to superior products made from suitable materials.
