What is BS 5141-2 – Method of testing for rating of air heating coils about?
Coils are the elements that increase or decrease the temperature and pressure of the gas used as coolant before passing it to another section of cooling or heating chamber.
BS 5141 is a series of British Standards that discusses specific assessment for air heating and cooling coils.
BS 5141-2 is the second part of the BS 5141 series that gives a method of testing for rating of duct-mounted air heating coils with hot water or dry saturated steam as the heating medium within the range of variables. These variables are mentioned in the Table 1 of BS 5141-2.
Who is BS 5141-2 - Method of testing for rating of air heating coils for?
BS 5141-2 on method of testing for rating of heating coils is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of heating appliances
- Manufacturers of air heating and cooling coils
- Manufacturers of ductwork components and ventilation systems
- Mechanical engineers
- Quality control and testing personnel
Why should you use BS 5141-2 - Method of testing for rating of air heating coils?
The object of the tests is to provide a fundamental means of establishing the rating of coils operating in other than test conditions by applying test data obtained from a prototype coil.
BS 5141-2 covers best industry guidance on air flow leakage test along with tests required for establishing a rating i.e heat transfer tests, air static pressure drop test, and hydraulic pressure drop test, and their respective calculations.
Thus, if you are a manufacturer, BS 5141-2 can determine whether your air heating coils are fit for its intended application and purpose, thus ensuring incidents of failure arising from poor heat transfer, corrosion, and coil fouling are minimized.
