What is BS 5186 - shaft centre height specification about?
Shafts carry gears, pulleys, and sprockets to transmit rotary motion and power via mating gears, belts, and chains.
BS 5186 is a British Standard that relates to shaft centre heights of 25 mm and above for driving and driven machines. BS 5186 specifies four series of shaft centre heights.
Who is BS 5186 - shaft centre height specification for?
BS 5186 on the shaft centre height specification is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of gears
- Manufacturers and suppliers of gear-based machinery
- Manufacturers of gear-based products such as pumps, cars, trains, etc.
- Product design teams / innovation teams
- Production / mechanical engineers
- Quality control personnel
- Health and safety authorities
Why should you use BS 5186 - shaft centre height specification?
Shafts transmit power from one rotating member to another supported by it or connected to it. Shaft centre height affects the quality of your products.
BS 5186 gives you the specification for shaft centre height with details on aspects such as dimensions, tolerances, and erection procedure.
Diagrams and tables illustrate shaft centre heights for series, tolerances on shaft height, as well as maximum parallelism error.
Using BS 5186 guidelines you can arrange the shaft centre height of your machinery so that you are able to manufacture high quality products for your customers.
