What is BS 5208 - Small internal combustion engines’ component dimensions about?
BS 5208 is a British Standard that specifies the dimensions of power take-off driving shafts and mounting faces for small internal combustion engines, generally up to 15 kW power output.
The purpose of the BS 5208 is to establish the dimensions requirements for power take-off driving shafts and mounting faces for small internal combustion engines such that they play a positive role in the performance of the end-product application.
Note: It is pointed out that the power take-off driving shafts and mounting faces specified in BS 5208 are not related to the main power take-off assemblies specified in BS 3092.
Who is BS 5208 - Small internal combustion engines’ component dimensions for?
BS 5208 on small internal combustion engines’ component dimensions is useful for:
- Small internal combustion engine manufacturers
- Power take-off driving shaft and mounting face manufacturers
- Manufacturers of equipment such as lawn mowers, generators, concrete mixers etc
- Product design engineers
- Mechanical engineers
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use BS 5208 - Small internal combustion engines’ component dimensions?
It is necessary for manufacturers to adopt best industry dimensional requirements for components such as power take-off driving shafts and mounting faces to ensure they are fit for purpose, and do not impair the functioning of the small internal combustion engine.
BS 5208 focuses on requirements of dimensions and tolerances on assembled engines, screw threads, stress concentrations of power take-off driving shafts, and mounting faces for small internal combustion engines.
If you are a manufacturer of the small internal combustion engines, the guidance specified in BS 5208 can help you ensure the safe, reliable and efficient use of power take-off driving shafts and mounting faces to meet the performance requirement of the small internal combustion engines and overall end-application needs.
