What is BS 5414 - Elongation of netting yarns for fishing nets about?
BS 5414 is an international standard that covers the elongation of netting yarns for fishing nets, enabling high strength and durability in fishing operations.
BS 5414 specifies a method of determining the elongation of netting yarns, from packages or from netting, in their final physical state.
BS 5414 tests may be carried out in both the dry and wet states but tests in the wet state are considered to be particularly appropriate in indicating the behaviour of the yarn in use.
Who is BS 5414 - Elongation of netting yarns for fishing nets for?
BS 5414 on the elongation of netting yarns for fishing nets applies to:
- Manufacturers of fishing nets
- Dealers and importers of fishing nets
- Suppliers of netting yarns
- Testing houses for fishing nets
- Quality assurance services
Why should you use BS 5414 - Elongation of netting yarns for fishing nets?
A fishing net is a net in which yarns are fused and knotted at their intersections. Elongation is the increase in length of a specimen during a tensile test, expressed as a percentage of the nominal gauge length.
BS 5414 provides users guidance on a test method for determining the elongation of netting yarns for fishing nets. BS 5414 also provides users with a step-by-step procedure for the method, enabling users to do the method correctly.
BS 5414 provides users guidance on principle, apparatus, sampling, preparation of specimens, requirements for testing, number of tests, procedure, expression of results, and test report, enabling users to accurately determine the elongation of netting yarns in fishing nets.
With obedience and compliance to BS 5414, users can determine the elongation of netting yarns for fishing nets, enabling the prevention of knot breaking load, strength and longevity in fishing nets.
