What is BS 5431 - specification for bending springs for copper tubes about?
Copper pipes are commonly used for a gas line, water supply lines, for refrigerant lines in HVAC (heating, ventilation, cooling and air conditioning) systems, and (in older homes) for drain-waste-venting, or DWV.
BS 5431 is a British Standard that specifies the dimensions, properties and colour code of steel bending springs intended to support the wall during bending operations on copper tubes complying with the requirements of BS 2871-1:1971. Dimensions and properties of the springs are specified for sizes of tube up to and including 22 mm diameter.
Who is BS 5431 - specification for bending springs for copper tubes for?
BS 5431 on the specification for bending springs for copper tubes is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of steel springs
- Manufacturers and suppliers of copper pipes and tubes
- Product design teams / innovation teams
- Production / mechanical engineers
- Quality control personnel
- Health and safety authorities
BS 5431 on the specification for bending springs for copper tubes is also useful for users of the copper tubes such as:
- Relevant government / municipal authorities
- The oil and gas industry
- Water supply and distribution authorities
- Authorities that manage drainage systems
Why should you use BS 5431 - specification for bending springs for copper tubes?
BS 5431 gives you the specification for manufacturing steel springs for copper tubes with details such as spring material, spring dimensions, spring properties, as well as the finish of the springs.
Diagrams illustrate the internal bending, as well as external bending. Spring properties and colour codes of internal and external bending springs are provided in detailed tables for your reference.
Using BS 5431 guidelines you have access to best practices in the manufacture of bending springs for copper tubes. This lets you demonstrate the efficiency and reliability of your steel springs. As a result, users have access to copper tubes that are safe for use.
