What is BS 5551-4.1.4 - Ammoniacal nitrogen content in fertilizers about?
BS 5551-4.1.4 is an international standard that covers the determination of ammoniacal nitrogen content in fertilizers which enables the control of soil acidity for optimum plant growth.
BS 5551-4.1.4 specifies a method for the determination of the ammoniacal nitrogen content of fertilizers containing other substances, such as urea or urea-aldehyde condensates, which release ammonia in the presence of sodium hydroxide.
Who is BS 5551-4.1.4 - Ammoniacal nitrogen content in fertilizers for?
BS 5551-4.1.4 on the determination of ammoniacal nitrogen content in fertilizers applies to:
- Manufacturers of fertilizers
- Dealers and importers of fertilizers
- Testing houses and labs for fertilizers
- Quality assurance services
Why should you use BS 5551-4.1.4 - Ammoniacal nitrogen content in fertilizers?
Ammoniacal nitrogen is a type of nitrogen that comes from ammonia and is easily absorbed by plants. The most frequent form of ammoniacal nitrogen in the soil is ammonium, which is produced naturally by the nitrogen cycle or injected into the soil via synthetic fertilisers and deposited for plant use.
BS 5551-4.1.4 provides users guidance on the titrimetric method for the determination of the ammoniacal nitrogen content of fertilizers. BS 5551-4.1.4 also provides users with a step-by-step procedure for the method, enabling users to do the method correctly.
BS 5551-4.1.4 provides users guidance on principle, reagents, apparatus, procedure, expression of results, precision and test report, enabling users to accurately determine nitrogen content in fertilizers.
With obedience and compliance to BS 5551-4.1.4, users can assess the ammoniacal nitrogen content in fertilizers, enabling a quick release of nitrogen for immediate availability to plants to ensure increased crop yields.
