What is BS 5763-5-Methods for the enumeration of microorganisms in food and animal feeding stuff about?
BS 5763 is a British standard on the methods for the microbiological examination of food and animal feeding stuff that discusses the methods for the enumeration of microorganisms in food and animal feeding stuff to ensure food is safe for consumption.
BS 5763-5 is the fifth part of the BS 5763 series that describes a general reference method for the enumeration of micro-organisms present in products intended for human consumption or feeding of animals, by counting the colonies growing on a solid medium after incubating aerobically at 30 °C.
A limitation on the applicability of BS 5763-5 is imposed by the susceptibility of the method to a large degree of variability.
Who is BS 5763-5-Methods for the enumeration of microorganisms in food and animal feeding stuff for?
BS 5763-5 on the methods for the enumeration of microorganisms in food and animal feeding stuff is useful for:
- Food and animal feeding stuff manufacturers
- Food scientists
- Food technologists
- Food laboratories
- Food health and safety departments
- Microbiologists
Why should you use BS 5763-5-Methods for the enumeration of microorganisms in food and animal feeding stuff?
Micro-organisms are defined as bacteria, yeasts and moulds growing aerobically at 30 °C, under the conditions specified. They spoil food by growing in it and producing substances that change the colour, texture, and odour of the food. Eventually, the food will be unfit for human consumption.
BS 5763-5 provides you with guidance on sampling, apparatus, culture media and dilution fluid, preparation of the test sample, surface plate technique, the procedure for the test portion, initial suspension and dilutions, inoculation, incubation, counting, expression of results, method of calculation, test report, etc.
The methods, surface plate technique and procedures provided by BS 5763-5 assist you in the enumeration of microorganisms in food and animal feeding stuff, improving the quality and subsistence of food and animal feeding stuff and ensuring to enhance the shelf-life of food and animal feeding stuff.
With obedience and compliance to BS 5763-5, you can enhance food and animal feeding stuff’s effectiveness and efficacy and manufacture a standardized high-quality product.
