What is BS 5766-15 - Soluble nitrogen content in animal feeds about?
BS 5766-15 is an international standard that serves technical specifications for determining soluble nitrogen content in animal feeds, enabling protein digestibility for optimum growth in animals.
BS 5766-15 specifies the determination of the soluble nitrogen content of animal feeding stuffs after treatment with pepsin in dilute hydrochloric acid.
Note 1: BS 5766-15 does not distinguish between protein nitrogen and non-protein nitrogen.
Note 2: The values obtained by using the BS 5766-15 method have no direct connection with digestibility in vivo.
Note 3: If non-protein nitrogen is to be excluded from the test result, its content should be determined using an appropriate method.
Who is BS 5766-15 - Soluble nitrogen content in animal feeds for?
BS 5766-15 on soluble nitrogen content in animal feeds applies to:
- Manufacturers of animal feeds
- Dealers and importers of animal feeds
- Testing labs for animal feeds
- Safety assurance services
- Regulatory bodies
Why should you use BS 5766-15 - Soluble nitrogen content in animal feeds?
Pepsin is the most important enzyme in protein digestion. Proteins are broken down into smaller peptides and amino acids that can be absorbed more easily in the small intestine. Proteins in feeds and forages are made up of nitrogen (N).
BS 5766-15 provides users guidance on a method for determining the soluble nitrogen content in animal feeds after pepsin treatment. BS 5766-15 also provides users with a step-by-step procedure for the method, enabling users to do the method correctly.
BS 5766-15 provides users guidance on principle, apparatus, sampling, test sample preparation, procedure, expression of results, precision, and test report, enabling accurate detection of soluble nitrogen in animal feeds.
With obedience and compliance to BS 5766-15, users can determine the soluble nitrogen in animal feeds that enables the digestion of proteins found in ingested food for effective health, vitality and longevity in animals.
