What is BS 5892-1 - Axles for traction and trailing stock about?
BS 5892 is a European standard that discusses the railway rolling stock materials. BS 5892-1 is the first part of the multi-part series that outlines the requirements for the manufacture, inspection, and testing of forged and/or rolled axles (solid or hollow) in the unmachined, part machined, or ready for assembly condition for traction and trailing stock to ensure acceptable standards are achieved for axles for traction and trailing stock.
BS 5892-1 includes requirements for the dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish that are to be adopted unless otherwise specified in the design drawing.
Note 1: BS 5892-1 does not apply to axles designed to BS EN 13103 and BS EN 13104, the manufacture, inspection, and testing of which are specified in BS EN 13261.
Who is BS 5892-1 - Axles for traction and trailing stock for?
BS 5892-1 on the specification for axles for traction and trailing stock is useful for:
- Manufacturers of axles for traction and trailing stock
- Test centres
- Regulatory authorities
Why should you use BS 5892-1 - Axles for traction and trailing stock?
A solid axle is an axle of homogeneous steel, produced by forging and/or rolling, that has not been bored. A hollow axle is an axle of homogeneous steel, produced by forging and/or rolling, that has been bored along with its centre line.
BS 5892-1 assist you with information to be supplied by the purchaser, classification and heat treatment, manufacture, manufacturer’s brand marks, inspection, type and number of tests, test methods, test results, the conclusion of the inspection, and protection in transport for axles for traction and trailing stock.
This assists in manufacturing efficient axles for traction and trailing stock of high quality as well as high durability.
With obedience and compliance to BS 5892-1, you can standardise the efficacy of axles for traction and trailing stock to manufacture a standardised product. In addition, protect axles for traction and trailing stock from corrosion and mechanical damage.
