What is BS 6114 – volumetric ratings of elevating scrapers about?
BS 6114 is an International Standard that specifies a procedure for approximating the volume of a typical material carried in the bowl of an elevating scraper. The volumes are based on the inside dimensions of the bowl and a representative volume on top of the bowl.
This rating method is intended to provide a consistent means of comparing capacities.
Note: The rating method is not intended to define actual capacities that might be observed in any specific application.
Who is BS 6114 - volumetric ratings of elevating scrapers for?
BS 6114 on ‘volumetric ratings of elevating scrapers’ is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of earth-moving machinery
- Product design engineers / innovation teams
- Quality control / testing personnel
- Compliance / audit teams
- Owners of earth-moving machinery
- Documentation and reporting personnel
BS 6114 on ‘volumetric ratings of elevating scrapers’ is also useful for other entities such as:
- Authorities who commission civil engineering projects
- Relevant government / municipal bodies
- The construction industry
- The manufacturing industry
- Project managers
- Contractors
- Civil / construction engineers
- Machine operators / maintenance teams
- Health and safety bodies
Why should you use BS 6114 - volumetric ratings of elevating scrapers?
Unlike regular scrapers that rely on an apron, elevating scrapers operate by using an elevator. Material is electronically or hydraulically loaded by the elevator into a raised bowl, which then dumps out the load by sliding the bowl's floor backward.
BS 6114 provides you with details on volumetric ratings such as positioning of the bowl, boundaries of the struck volume, boundaries of the top volume, and the rated volume.
Diagrams offer further clarity for the various boundaries.
BS 6114 helps you to compare capacities of the scraper so that work can be planned accordingly. BS 6114 contributes towards efficiency of work so that the project moves along smoothly and without delays relating to volume estimations.
