What is BS 6215-1-Determination of the crude fibre content of agricultural food products about?
BS 6215 is a British standard on the methods of test for agricultural food products that discusses the determination of the crude fibre content of agricultural food products to measure fermentable components of the food.
BS 6215-1 is the first part of the BS 6215 series that specifies a conventional method for the determination of the crude fibre content of agricultural food products.
The method under BS 6215-1 is intended for general application. However, it may be necessary, in certain individual cases, to choose a more appropriate method, particularly in the case of yeasts and products containing less than 1 % of crude fibre.
Who is BS 6215-1-Determination of the crude fibre content of agricultural food products for?
BS 6215-1 on the determination of the crude fibre content of agricultural food products is useful for:
- Agricultural food products manufacturers
- Food scientists
- Food technologists
- Food laboratories
- Food health and safety departments
Why should you use BS 6215-1-Determination of the crude fibre content of agricultural food products?
Crude fibre content is the whole of the substances which are insoluble and combustible under the operating conditions. The crude fibre content is expressed as a percentage by mass, referred either to the product received or the dry matter content of the product.
BS 6215-1 provides you with guidance on apparatus, sampling, the procedure for the preparation of test sample, test portion, determination, extraction of fatty substances, expression of results, method of calculation and formulae, test report, etc.
The conventional method and procedure provided by BS 6215-1 assist you in the determination of the crude fibre content of agricultural food products, evaluating the efficiency of milling and separating bran from the starchy endosperm to measure the quantity of indigestible cellulose, pentosans, lignin, and other components of this type in present foods.
With obedience and compliance to BS 6215-1, you can enhance the quality of agricultural food products and manufacture a standardized high-quality product
