What is BS 6911-8 – slope limits for machine fluid about?
Earthmoving equipment is heavy equipment, typically heavy-duty vehicles designed for construction operations that involve earthworks. BS 6911-8 is an International Standard that discusses the testing of earth-moving machinery.
BS 6911-8 is the eighth part of the multi-series that specifies laboratory test procedures to establish the static slope capability of fluid system(s) operation of earth-moving machines (engine, power train, fuel system, oil system, etc.).
BS 6911-8 applies to earth-moving machines as given in ISO 6165, with combinations of standard mounted attachments.
Who is BS 6911-8 - slope limits for machine fluid for?
BS 6911-8 on ‘slope limits for machine fluid’ is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of earthmoving machinery
- Product design engineers
- Mechanical engineers
- Owners and operators of earthmoving machinery
- Contractors
- Project managers
- Operators and maintenance crews
- Quality control and testing personnel
- The construction industry
Why should you use BS 6911-8 - slope limits for machine fluid?
All fluid systems rely on the same basic components for power transmission, but the specific kind for each type of system use varies.
BS 6911-8 evaluates the performance parameters that limit the static slope capability of machine system(s) operation. The preferred static slope capability test method is with the machine on a tilt platform or on a prepared slope. An acceptable alternative method is the testing of complete fluid systems on a test bench. In either method, precautions are necessary to ensure safety.
BS 6911-8 provides guidance on test equipment, measuring equipment and accuracy, machine preparation, slope capability, and other criteria.
BS 6911-8 helps to mitigate risks to life and property during the testing of earth-moving machinery, ensuring that projects proceed smoothly and without accidents.
