What is BS 7143 - Specification for catheter mounts (flexible adaptors) about?
BS 7143 is a European standard that outlines the requirements for catheter mounts (flexible adaptors) intended to connect anaesthetic or ventilator breathing systems to tracheal or tracheostomy tube connectors.
Note: BS 7143 does not specify requirements for tracheal and tracheostomy tube connectors, these being given in BS EN 1782, BS EN 1282-1, and BS EN 1282-2.
Who is BS 7143 - Specification for catheter mounts (flexible adaptors) for?
BS 7143 on the specification for catheter mounts (flexible adaptors) is useful for:
- Manufacturers of catheter mounts
- Test centres or any person involved in the testing of catheter mounts
- Design engineers
Why should you use BS 7143 - Specification for catheter mounts (flexible adaptors)?
A catheter mount is a flexible adaptor for joining or connecting the patient connection port of a breathing system to a tracheal or tracheostomy tube connector.
BS 7143 assists you in designing catheter mounts by guiding you regarding the design of the machine end, patient end, and an intermediate section of catheter mounts (flexible adaptors).
With compliance to performance guidelines under BS 7143, you can prevent detachment of ends and collapse of catheter mount and thus, can maintain the performance of catheter mounts.
BS 7143 also guides you regarding the electrical conductivity, colour, and marking of catheter mounts.
BS 7143 also provides recommendations for materials, method of test for disengagement, method of test for the security of attachment of machine and patient ends, method of test for resistance to collapse of catheter mounts when flexed and method of test for resistance to collapse of catheter mounts when rotated.
This assists you in manufacturing efficient catheter mounts of high durability and quality and also provides for testing of catheter mounts for evaluation of their efficiency.
