What is BS 7157 – Ignitability of fabrics about?
BS 7157 is an international standard that focuses on the ignitability of fabrics used in the construction of large tented structures.
BS 7157 describes a method of testing for the ignitability of fabrics used in the construction of large tented structures such as marquees, large tents, temporary buildings, awnings and any other structure utilizing large areas of a flexible membrane other than air-supported structures.
Who is BS 7157 – Ignitability of fabrics for?
BS 7157 on the ignitability of fabrics used in the construction of large tented structures is useful for:
- Mechanical textile manufacturing industries
- Fabric testing laboratories
- Product development teams
Why should you use BS 7157 – Ignitability of fabrics?
Fabrics used in the manufacture of large tents and marquees arranged on a framework to represent the walls and roof of a tented structure are subjected to a range of ignition sources. There are several advantages of using a textile structure in architecture and construction
BS 7157 has been prepared under the direction of the Textiles and Clothing Standards Policy Committee. Depending on the application, the fabric may require different properties.
BS 7157 covers the technicalities for conducting a test method to determine the ignitability of the fabrics used in the construction of large tented structures. It helps the users with all the information such as apparatus required, conditioning and testing of the test pieces, the detailed test procedure, etc., to check the ignitability of fabrics.
Users of BS 7157 can understand and study the fabric structures, which gives them the freedom to design various shapes and appearances.
Thus, BS 7157 proves helpful to you as it gives you recommendations on the extent of hole formation which can be tolerated regarding the safety, related to the size of the ignition source used.
