What is BS 7190 – Thermal performance of hot water boilers using a test rig about?
BS 7190 is a European Standard that covers the assessment of the thermal performance of hot water boiler using a test rig, ensuring stable operability, resilience and durability in boiler operations.
BS 7190 describes a procedure for assessing the thermal performance of low-temperature hot water boilers that are intended for central heating or indirect hot water supply and which are fired with solid, liquid or gaseous fuels.
In BS 7190, the thermal efficiency is obtained by the direct method of test and is established to within a tolerance of ± 2 % points.
BS 7190 applies to boilers designed to operate at flow temperatures not exceeding 100 °C, with rated heat output between 44 kW and 600 kW when used with one or more of the following fuels:
- Smokeless solid fuels, e.g. coke or anthracite, fired with automatic combustion appliances
- Bituminous coal-fired using mechanical stokers
- Gaseous fuels of the 2nd and 3rd families
and with rated heat output between 300 kW and 600 kW when used with liquid fuels of the classes specified in BS 2869.
Note: BS 2869 does not apply to steam boilers or boilers pressurized by steam.
Who is BS 7190 - Thermal performance of hot water boilers using a test rig for?
BS 7190 on assessing thermal performance of hot water boilers using a test rig form is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of hot water boilers
- Dealers and importers of hot water boilers
- Quality and safety assurance services
- Environment testing and inspection services
- Product designers
- Quality control and maintenance personnel
Why should you use BS 7190 - Thermal performance of hot water boilers using a test rig?
Hot water boilers are used in buildings to maintain uniform heating in building spaces. Thus, the thermal efficiency is obtained by the direct method of test and is established within a tolerance of ± 2 % points). Flue gas losses and loss due to combustibles in ash, where applicable, are determined by measurement.
Surface heat losses and other unmeasured losses are derived by difference. Procedures are also included to determine the associated characteristics of water-side resistance and gas-side resistance.
BS 7190 provides you guidance on test facilities, test room and test rig, enabling you to perform testing to get accurate results.
BS 7190 provides you guidance on instrumentation and measurements, including measurement tolerances, temperature measurements, sampling and measurements, gas and waterside resistance, enabling you to obtain accurately measure the impact of different parameters in the testing of hot boilers.
BS 7190 provides you guidance on instrumentation, measurements, test fuels, installation, adjustment, test preparation, conditions, test duration, test operation, calculations and test report, enabling you to assess the thermal performance in hot water boilers.
By adopting BS 7190, you can develop and assess the performance of hot water boilers to ensure stable operability, performance and efficiency in boiler operations.
