What is BS 7350 - Double regulating globe valves and flow measurement devices about?
The double regulating valve, often known as the balancing valve, is typically seen in water systems. In controlling fluid regulation or in heating and ventilation systems, double regulating valves are utilized. Whereas flow measurement is the process of determining the rate of flow or amount of flow of liquids, gases, and vapours using a flow measurement equipment or device.
BS 7350 is a British Standard that specifies pressure/temperature ratings, dimensions, some aspects of design, materials, performance requirements, testing (both type and production testing), marking and preparation for storage and transportation of double regulating globe valves and flow measurement devices used for heating and chilled water systems.
BS 7350 covers double regulating globe valves and flow measurement devices in the form of fixed and variable orifice valves and as individual orifice fittings made from steel, cast iron and copper alloys with flanged, threaded and compression ends, or for mounting between flanges, in a range of sizes and nominal pressure designations.
Note: BS 7350 does not cover methods of installation.
Who is BS 7350 - Double regulating globe valves and flow measurement devices for?
BS 7350 on double regulating globe valves and flow measurement devices is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of double regulating globe valves and flow measurement devices
- Manufacturers of water heating systems
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use BS 7350 - Double regulating globe valves and flow measurement devices?
The double regulating feature of valves allows the valve to be used for isolation and to be reopened to its pre-set position to maintain required flow rate. The flow pattern through a globe valve involves changes in direction, resulting in greater resistance to flow, causing high pressure drop. However, to ensure that they are safe and reliable for use, it is essential that manufacturers comply with best industry requirements.
BS 7350 provides best industry guidance on double regulation valves and flow measurement devices along with necessary testing required to verify that the products and their components are fit for purpose.
Thus, BS 7350 helps you manufacture high-quality and failure-free double regulating globe valves and flow measurement devices such that they are effective at the point of use. Moreover, ensuring flow measurement devices comply with BS 7350, can contribute to operational accuracy and efficiency of the devices.
