What is BS 7363 - BOP test for welds about?
BS 7363 is a British Standard that discusses the method for bead-on-plate (BOP) test for welds.
The purpose of BS 7363 is to provide BOP test guidance to evaluate the hardness of the welds.
BS 7363 describes the BOP test for welds. These are intended for investigating the welding of carbon, carbon-manganese, and low-alloy steels.
Tests are normally performed for the evaluation of parent material characteristics. Tests may also be used to investigate welding consumables and welding parameters.
Note: The titles of the publications referred to in BS 7363 are listed on the inside back cover.
Who is BS 7363 - BOP test for welds for?
BS 7363 on BOP test for welds is useful for:
- Welding equipment manufacturers
- Welders and fabricators
- Mechanical engineers
- Product design engineers
- Quality control and testing personnel
Why should you use BS 7363 - BOP test for welds?
A Vickers hardness survey done in the heat affected zone (HAZ) right under the weld of a single bead is known as a bead-on-plate test. This is a test designed to provide the highest achievable hardness with specific heat input.
The guidance in BS 7363 provides you with measurements, material requirements for test pieces, and walks you through the BOP test procedure for hardness testing of welded joints made of carbon, carbon-manganese, and low-alloy steels. This can ultimately determine whether your products are fit for purpose.
Compliance with the best industry practices specified in BS 7363 can help demonstrate whether or not the welded joints are susceptible to hydrogen-induced cracking.
