What is BS 7412:2024 Specification for windows and doorsets made from PVC-U extruded hollow profiles about?
This revised national standard sets out good practice in the design, manufacture and performance of this type of timber alternative window/door and enables third party certification of these products to give purchasers reassurance.
Who is BS 7412:2024 Specification for windows and doorsets made from PVC-U extruded hollow profiles for?
- window and door manufacturers;
- surveyors;
- fabricators;
- system houses;
- architects;
- specifiers;
- certification bodies;
- local authorities.
What does BS 7412:2024 Specification for windows and doorsets made from PVC-U extruded hollow profiles cover?
BS 7412 specifies requirements for the design, fabrication and performance of windows and glazed doorsets made from PVC-U extruded hollow profiles incorporating fusion welded corner joints. It applies to windows and doors fabricated into frames in a factory, to be installed vertically (within 15°) into the external face of buildings. It applies to assemblies in which no frame is longer than 3m.
Why should you use BS 7412:2024 Specification for windows and doorsets made from PVC-U extruded hollow profiles?
- The specifications in BS 7412:2024 support the construction of PVC-U windows and doorsets that are consistently appropriate in terms of fire resistance, impact resistance, structural integrity, ventilation, energy efficiency, general protection, accessibility and security.
- BS 7412:2024 is a means of meeting Building Regulations and can reduce the risk of legal issues and liabilities.
- BS 7412:2024 enables products to demonstrate their quality via third party certification to the standard. This gives specifiers, purchasers and consumers greater confidence in products and trust in manufacturers, and can in turn streamline the processes of entering new markets and expanding business opportunities.
- BS 7412:2024 can make the processes of design and manufacture more efficient, resulting in lower production costs and more competitive pricing.
- Additionally, fabrication techniques for PVC-U windows have developed since the standard was last published in 2007. To meet current industry needs, BS 7412:2024 has extended the document's scope to include new methods of welding and mechanical jointing of corners, removed reference to infill panels and added a section on thermal inserts.
What has changed?
BS 7412:2024 supersedes BS 7412:2007 and makes the following changes:a) inclusion in scope of partially welded and mechanically jointed corners;b) removal of reference to infill panels;c) addition of thermal inserts section.
