What is BS 7478- Selection and use of thermostatic radiator valves about?
BS 7478 is a European Standard that covers the selection and use of thermostatic radiator valves, ensuring energy saving and cost-effectiveness.
BS 7478 gives guidance on the selection, application and use of thermostatic radiator valves (TRV) manufactured in accordance with BS EN 215-1 for use in domestic and commercial wet central heating systems up to a water temperature of 120 °C.
BS 7478 covers two areas of TRV use, these are domestic installation and commercial installation.
Who is BS 7478 - Selection and use of thermostatic radiator valves for?
BS 7478 on guide to selection and use of thermostatic radiator valves is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of thermostatic radiator valves
- Buyers of thermostatic radiator valves
- Architects
- Quality control and testing personnel
Why should you use BS 7478 - Selection and use of thermostatic radiator valves?
A thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) is a self-regulating valve fitted to a hot water heating system radiator to control the temperature of the room by changing the flow of hot water to the radiator. They play a critical role in the regulation of hot water to the radiator.
BS 7478 provides you with descriptive guidelines on domestic installations and commercial installations, ensuring stable operability and functioning in domestic and commercial operations.
BS 7478 discusses the process of valve selection, installation and commissioning for the purpose of efficient functioning of the valves when placed for use. BS 7478 also walks you through the features and checklist to be maintained while selecting a valve for its intended use.
Thus, if you are a buyer, installer or manufacturer of a thermostatic radiator valve that is intended to be used in buildings, then by using BS 7478 guideline you can assess the features and requirements of the valve needed for the end product application.
