What is BS 7582 about?
BS 7582 specifies inspection, procedures, and documentation procedures associated with reconditioned safes and secure cabinets falling. The term “safe” used within this BS 7582 refers to either a safe or a secure safe cabinet and provides guidance and best practice recommendations on how to recondition safes.
NOTE: If the safe and its contents are to be covered by insurance, the company concerned may might wish to inspect it after reconditioning and establish a maximum level of overnight risk- taking account of the safe itself and other circumstances.
Who is BS 7582 for?
BS 7582 on reconditioning of used safes and secure safe cabinets is applicable to:
- Retailers who deal in reconditioning of used safes
- Any entity involved in the second-hand safes and secure safe cabinet market
Why should you use BS 7582?
Safe manufacturers have a duty of care to their customers, past and present, which includes the maintenance of confidentiality regarding the construction details of their safes. As older safes are not up to date with newer technologies, increases in burglaries could pose as a concern.
BS 7582 increases trust in reconditioned safes, enabling them to be bought and sold more readily, thereby enabling consumers to buy better safes at lower prices and to access a wider range of sizes, shapes, and designs of safe.
BS 7582 is beneficial as it enables you to store items of importance in a protected location.
As a buyer of BS 7582 and product end-user, you will be able to take the advantage of the extension of the safe life, which, given the resource requirements of new safes, is an ecologically and economically intelligent option.
BS 7582 contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 9 on industry, innovation and infrastructure and Goal 12 on responsible consumption and production.
