What is BS 7614 - Natural tracing paper about?
Tracing paper is paper made to have low opacity, allowing light to pass through. It was originally developed for architects and design engineers to create drawings that could be copied precisely using the diazo copy process.
BS 7614 specifies the minimum requirements for draughting media made from natural tracing paper. BS 7614 details qualities necessary for draughting and reproduction, and specifies appropriate test methods for the most commonly used grammages within the range 40 g/m2 to 160 g/m2 i.e., 62,5 g/m2, 72,5 g/m2, 92,5 g/m2 and 112,5 g/m2.
Who is BS 7614 - Natural tracing paper for?
BS 7614 on natural tracing paper is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of tracing paper
- The paper and board industry
- Paper mills
- Paper manufacturing companies
- Laboratories for tracing paper testing
- Paper analysis researchers
Why should you use BS 7614 - Natural tracing paper?
Tracing paper is a semi-transparent paper you can use to trace an image or drawing. A natural tracing paper for use with ink and/or pencil, the translucency of which is achieved by mechanical treatment during the manufacturing process.
BS 7614 guides you with natural tracing paper surface characteristics, tearing resistance, and resistance to ageing of tracing paper. BS 7614 provides you with methods for measuring the transparency of paper. The transparency of natural tracing paper is determined either by a transmission method using a densitometer designed to read ISO diffuse visual transmission density, or by a reflectance method using a reflectometer.
BS 7614 gives guidance on packaging and storage of sheets and rolls which help to protect against mechanical damage and change in moisture content during transit and storage. BS 7614 guidelines help you to produce high-quality natural tracing paper with good strength and durability.
