What is BS 7755-5.2– Soil quality about?
BS 7755-5.2 specifies an in-situ method for the determination of water content in the unsaturated zone of soils using a neutron depth probe.
BS 7755-5.2 is applicable when investigations into the water storage, water balance and water distribution in the unsaturated zone of the soil are carried out. Because the method is non-destructive, it is particularly suitable for repeated measurements at fixed locations. Water content profiles can be obtained by measuring at a series of depths down to any depth within the range of the phreatic level at the site.
The advantage of the methods described in BS 7755-5.2 compared with some others, for example the gamma probe method, is the rapidity with which measurements can be carried out. A disadvantage, however, is the relatively poor depth resolution of the measurements.
Who is BS 7755-5.2– Soil quality for?
BS 7755-5.2 on soil quality is relevant to:
- Chemical Engineer
- Researchers and scientists
- Microbiologists
Why should you use BS 7755-5.2– Soil quality?
A neutron depth probe, consisting of a neutron source and detector, is lowered into a vertical access tube in the soil.
BS 7755-5.2 provides physical methods and procedures for determining the water content present in the unsaturated zone using neutron depth probe method.
BS 7755-5.2 specifies methods for measuring water content, sampling, and monitoring, and preparing samples for the testing methods.
As a result of the BS 7755-5.2, you can determine the water content present in soil, improving the fertility of the soil, making it more nourishing and promoting the growth of crops, and will be widely accepted by farmers worldwide.
