What is BS EN 12372 – Natural stone test about?
BS EN 12372 is a European standard that discusses the determination of flexural strength under concentrated lead for natural stone test methods. These materials are quarried from Earth's surface and used for a variety of projects such as sculptures, countertops, fireplaces, flooring, and more.
BS EN 12372 specifies a test method for the determination of flexural strength under a concentrated load for natural stone. Both an identification and a technological product testing procedure are included.
Who is BS EN 12372 – Natural stone test for?
BS EN 12372 on natural stone test methods applies to:
- Quality testing personnel
- Design engineers
- Testing authorities
- Stone Industry
Why should you use BS EN 12372 – Natural stone test?
Flexural strength indicates how much force is required to break a test sample of a defined measurement diameter. As soon as this value is exceeded, the test specimen breaks.
BS EN 12372 presents you with the methodology in which a specimen is placed on two rollers and progressively loads the specimen in the middle. This helps you to measure the breaking load and calculate the flexural strength. BS EN 12372 also provides you with the apparatus arrangement that is used in the test method. This enables the users for determining the flexural strength which helps users to estimate the fitness of the stone for particular applications.
Overall, BS EN 12372 provides you with comprehensive guidance for conducting the natural stone test methods for various purposes.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 12372:2022 supersedes BS EN 12372:2006, which is withdrawn. It includes:
- Inclusion of an informative annex (Annex B) presenting an alternative method for calculation of flexural strength for off-centre specimen fracture.
